14th European Championships
Wow, what a race! Because of this years Olympic Games the only other major championship I was eligible to race in was the European Championships, and I'm pleased to say I delivered something pretty close to my best. Of course, there was sections where I gave away time, but all in all I was pleased with my performance. Perhaps most frustrating (but also encouraging), was how close to the final I was - about 0.4 seconds!
Equally as exciting was watching the mens kayak finals. Despite myself not having qualified, my team mate Campbell had, and put down an excellent second run to take the lead. We then had to watch, in eager anticipation, the next five competitors all try and challenge for Campbell's lead.....fortunately they all failed, and Campbell was crowned the European Champion!
It was certainly a moving experience listening to God Save the Queen at the medal ceremony......
