UK Championships

With the UK championships acting as the final of our 3 race GB team selection series there was still everything to play for, especially as the winner in both u23 and senior classes wins automatic selection to the team.

Given my below par performance the previous weekend, I and a number of others knew that only the win would do, which as a result, made for some exciting racing over the course of the weekend.

In Saturdays qualification race the results were:

  1. Rob Neave, 201.72(0)
  2. Andrew Hadfield, 203.59(+2)
  3. Huw Swetnam, 204.94(0)

Sundays course was a radical departure from that of Saturdays with lots of tricky, highly technical moves to contend with.

Despite me putting down two very good runs the addition of 4 seconds of penalties left me in 2nd place which unfortunately wasn't enough to secure my place on the team for this year.

The final results were:

  1. Huw Swetnam, 198.32(0)
  2. Andrew Hadfield, 199.01(4)
  3. Rob Neave, 199.62(6)

Congratulations to Huw, who by not only winning the race and thereby qualifying his place for the team, put down 8 clean runs in the process - quite an achievement.

The mens kayak u23 and Senior teams for 2007 are:

    Senior:
  1. Campbell Walsh
  2. Richard Hounslow
  3. Huw Swetnam
    u23:
  1. Rob Neave
  2. Andrew Hadfield
  3. Nathan Stevenson
