All I can say is that todays results are my best by about a country mile! With the exception of the University Worlds my previous personal best was 35th at the Euros last year, so to have improved by 18 places and a fair chunk of time leaves me feeling quite excited and confident for the upcoming season.
What gives me even more confidence though, is that whilst my semi-final run was certainly good, it was by no means perfect. Indeed, there was another second or so to be had on the last two breakouts, which would have then put me in finals territory - slalom is all about if's and but's, however.
The winner of the mens kayak was Fabian Doerfler (GER), with Michael Kurt (SUI) 2nd, and Alexander Grimm (GER) 3rd. Congratulations to Richie who made his first senior final finishing in 9th.
And so to the teams, where, after some decidedly 'un-teamly' like advice from our coach ('...go look at it yourselves'!!) the trio of Campbell Walsh, Richard Hounslow, and myself put down a run nearly 3 seconds quicker than the rest of the field, which was, even with the addition of a 2 second penalty, enough to win the race. To say I was somewhat surprised at discovering we'd won would be a massive understatement, especially as we hadn't actually done a team run together since the Worlds back in Prague last year.
All in all, not a bad days work really; a PB, and my first international medal - hopefully there will be a few more to come in the not too distant future.
